Which skin changes can be treated?
Skin tags, fibromas and small skin growths
Skin tags are usually small, soft, benign skin growths. They are also often called soft fibromas and may occur on the neck, under the arms or in skin folds.
If removal is desired for medical or cosmetic reasons, a suitable procedure can be selected after medical assessment.
A CO₂ laser can be used for certain skin changes that have first been assessed as benign. It removes tissue in a targeted way.
Not every skin change is suitable for this procedure. Particularly for unclear or suspicious pigmented lesions, appropriate diagnostic assessment and, where necessary, histological examination must be ensured.
What does treatment involve?
First, the skin change is examined by a doctor. Depending on the findings, dermoscopy may be required. The doctor then discusses whether removal is necessary or desired and which method is suitable.
Treatment duration, anaesthesia, aftercare and possible risks depend on the type of procedure.

CO₂RE® and CO₂ FIRE-XEL® – technologies
The existing website describes two CO₂ laser systems, CO₂RE® and CO₂ FIRE-XEL®. CO₂ laser energy is absorbed by water-containing tissue and enables controlled removal of suitable benign skin changes. It may also help control bleeding. The devices do not replace dermatological diagnosis or histological examination when this is required.
Procedure, duration and aftercare
Examination and, where appropriate, dermoscopy are carried out first. The suitable method, anaesthesia and aftercare are then discussed. For minor procedures, the existing website gives around 10–30 minutes as a guide. Redness and crusting may occur after treatment. The skin should be cared for according to medical instructions, not picked or scratched, and protected from the sun. Scarring and pigmentation changes are possible.
CO₂RE® and CO₂ FIRE-XEL® – laser technologies in Frankfurt
The Frankfurt website describes the CO₂ laser systems CO₂RE® and CO₂ FIRE-XEL®. CO₂ laser energy is absorbed by water in the tissue and can enable controlled, layer-by-layer removal of suitable benign growths. Depending on the application, treatment may also help control bleeding. The specific device and settings are selected according to the findings; no technology guarantees scar-free or faster healing.
Treatment duration, anaesthesia and procedure
After dermatological examination, the doctor determines whether removal is appropriate and whether histological examination is needed. Depending on the findings, local anaesthesia, laser removal or a surgical procedure may be considered. Small growths can often be treated in a few minutes; including preparation and when several areas are involved, the appointment may take around 10 to 30 minutes or longer.
Healing, sun protection and possible risks
Crusting, redness, temporary pigmentation changes and, occasionally, scarring may occur after tissue removal. Superficial healing often takes days to weeks. Crusts should not be picked; wound care and consistent sun protection, with SPF 50 if appropriate, should follow the doctor's instructions. A review is advisable if pain increases or there is marked redness or discharge.
When is tissue examination necessary?
For suspicious, unclear or unusually pigmented lesions, diagnostic safety takes priority. An ablative laser can destroy the tissue structure needed for histology. The procedure chosen must therefore allow any necessary tissue examination to be carried out.
