Excessive or increased sweating is referred to as hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis, a term derived from Greek meaning “too much water,” describes a condition in which there is an unusually high and often uncontrollable production of sweat. It is a disorder characterized by spontaneous, localized excessive sweating, particularly in areas such as the underarms, soles of the feet, and palms of the hands. This sweating exceeds the normal requirements of physiological thermoregulation and reflects an exaggerated response of the sweat glands to normal stimuli.
Hyperhidrosis can be classified into generalized excessive sweating and localized excessive sweating. Most cases involve primary, localized hyperhidrosis of unknown cause. As its causes are not yet fully understood, it is referred to as idiopathic or essential hyperhidrosis. Its intensity is influenced by the amount of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine present in the synaptic cleft. This specific type of hyperhidrosis is treated with injections of botulinum toxin.
Hyperhidrosis can be treated very effectively with injections of botulinum toxin type A. Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It blocks the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at the effector sites, thereby interrupting the transmission of nerve impulses to the sweat glands. As a result, the sweat glands stop producing sweat.
Botulinum toxin blocks the nerve signals that activate the sweat glands, significantly reducing sweat production. The procedure is safe and performed on an outpatient basis. During the treatment, the marked points in the area of the sweat glands are precisely injected with botulinum toxin.
Treatment with botulinum toxin (Botox) offers an effective solution, significantly reducing excessive sweating. Here’s how the procedure works and what you should know beforehand.

Before the treatment, a detailed consultation takes place with our specialist. Your symptoms, medical history, and any potential contraindications will be discussed.
The area to be treated (e.g. underarms, palms, or soles) is disinfected. Upon request, a numbing cream can be applied to make the procedure more comfortable.
Precise points on the skin where the injections will be administered are marked.
Using a fine needle, small amounts of botulinum toxin are injected into the skin. The entire procedure takes approximately 15–20 minutes and is generally well tolerated.
The Botox treatment for excessive sweating is a modern, minimally invasive solution that offers many people a significant improvement in their quality of life. Feel free to schedule a consultation – we’re happy to take the time to answer your questions!
The treatment duration is approximately 15–20 minutes.
Please discuss any concerns with your doctor.
