Stretch Marks: How Do I Get Them Removed?

15 February 2022

Each strip has its own story. About 70% of women in the world have stretch marks and the body positivity movement on social media is bigger than ever and yet the most asked question is how to get rid of them. What are the causes and what can those affected do about it?

HOW DO STRETCH MARKS FORM ON THE BREAST?

Stretch marks on the breasts often appear during puberty. The slightly red shimmering stripes are also known as growth stripes at a young age. During puberty, the breasts grow and when the body has a rapid growth spurt, the connective tissue becomes overstretched and tears occur.

In addition to the classic stretch marks on the stomach, there are often tears in the breast during pregnancy. The breasts are already preparing for breastfeeding in the first half of pregnancy, they can become sensitive and enlarge. The sudden increase in breast size can cause stretch marks on the breasts. Another cause is gaining or losing weight too quickly – the skin often cannot keep up with the pace and the connective tissue tears. This is how stretch marks are formed, which are also technically referred to as striae.

STRETCH MARKS – MEN ARE ALSO AFFECTED

Often common in women, especially due to pregnancy, men are also affected by stretch marks and it is often a taboo subject here. However, men going through puberty, in periods of stress and growth, with heavy weight gain and also with greater demands from muscle training can also suffer massively from stretch marks. Many people do not notice or perceive these stretch marks at all. Nevertheless, these become an individual burden and can have a lasting effect on everyday life in many situations.

DO HOME REMEDIES HELP AGAINST STRETCH MARKS ON THE BREAST?

Oils, creams, massages or cold showers are probably the most commonly mentioned home remedies. Massages are generally credited with having a positive effect on blood circulation in the skin and the elasticity of the connective tissue. Manufacturers often advertise creams that are supposed to successfully remove stretch marks. These should increase the elasticity of the skin and thus help the small cracks in the skin to heal better and are therefore less visible. Moisture is good for the skin, but it cannot work miracles and eliminate the broken skin cracks. We have no influence on physical development during puberty or during pregnancy. In addition, the condition of the connective tissue is different for everyone and is hereditary, so the mostly reddish to whitish stripes cannot simply be avoided or prevented.

LASER TREATMENT FOR STRETCH MARKS ON THE BREAST?

At the Era Esthetic Avenue Aesthetics and Laser Medicine Center, strips and scars are performed using the latest generation of lasers: the PicoWay Resolve picsosecond laser. The laser beams penetrate under the surface of the skin, where they spread evenly. Tiny areas are created under the skin where new collagen and elastin are formed. Laser treatment for stretch marks literally works from within. The treatment leaves the outer layers of the skin intact, which is why this treatment has no downtime.

MICRONEEDLING – TREATMENT FROM THE OUTSIDE IN

Medical microneedling treatment is a procedure to improve the skin by activating the skin’s natural regeneration processes, which stimulates collagen synthesis. The areas of skin where stretch marks have formed are treated with a derma roller or a needling pen. The skin is punctured by the needles. This leads to irritation of the top layer of skin, which intentionally causes the smallest micro-injuries. By creating controlled micro-channels in the skin, the regeneration of skin cells is triggered via a natural healing process.

The best result is often achieved with a combination of laser therapy and microneedling. The experts from Era Esthetic in Frankfurt analyze in advance which treatment is most suitable during a free consultation.
