The path to becoming a dermatologist is demanding and requires years of study and continuous training:
- bachelor's degree: initially, an undergraduate degree in biology, chemistry or medicine is required (approx. 3-4 years).
- medical studies: This is followed by medical studies, which usually take 6 years and are completed with a doctorate (MD or DO).
- internship and specialist training: Clinical training (specialist training in dermatology), which lasts up to 5 years, follows after medical school.
4th specialisation: Many dermatologists also specialise in certain areas such as aesthetic dermatology, which can take a further 1-2 years.
In total, training to become a fully qualified dermatologist takes around 12 years - a demanding path full of learning, practice and the pursuit of the highest level of expertise.
